What is a business valuation?
A business valuation is a determination of the worth, or fair market value, of a business. A valuation is different from an appraisal, which is the determination of the worth of tangible personal property and/or real property. A valuation is based on internal and external factors such as a business ownership, financial position, results of current and past operations, forecasts of future operations, competition, the industry in which the company operates and economic conditions.
This chart shows the procedures required as generally accepted business valuation practice. It provides a checklist of procedures that should be followed.
